About SoftCell

To Provide Comprehensive Quality Care

Who is SoftCell Laboratories?

SoftCell Laboratories is a clinical testing lab, part of Doc Lab®. When your doctor or nurse practitioner needs a test run, they can send your sample to us. We test urine, look for infections, check how your body handles certain medications, and run blood tests.

Does SoftCell diagnose or treat conditions?

No. SoftCell performs testing only. Your healthcare provider interprets your results in the context of your symptoms and history, and makes all diagnosis and treatment decisions.

Who orders my test?

Your healthcare provider selects and orders the testing appropriate for your individual care — you don't order tests directly from SoftCell.

Your Test and Your Results

What Happens After Your Provider Places an Order

What happens after my provider orders a test?
  1. Your provider orders testing selected for your individual care.
  2. You provide a sample — either urine or a cheek swab, depending on the test.
  3. SoftCell performs testing. Most results are available to your provider within 24–48 hours of sample receipt.
  4. Your provider reviews your results, interpreting them alongside your symptoms, history, and other findings, and treats accordingly.
How long does it take to get results?

Most results are available to your provider within 24–48 hours of SoftCell receiving your sample. Your provider will follow up with you to discuss what the results mean for your care.

Who should I contact about my results?

Your ordering provider is the best person to explain what your results mean for your care. SoftCell performs the testing but does not interpret results for patients directly.

What if my symptoms are urgent or getting worse?

Contact your provider or seek immediate medical care — don't wait on lab results.

General Information About Our Testing Options

TrueUA® — Quantitative Urinalysis

An advanced urine chemistry test that delivers more accurate, quantifiable results compared to older, less precise urine tests. It's used to help assess urinary or kidney health, investigate symptoms, or decide whether additional testing is needed.

Sample needed: Clean-catch urine

UTM™ — Molecular UTI Detection

A molecular test that looks for genetic material from microorganisms associated with urinary tract infections. It may be ordered when you have urinary symptoms, recurrent infections, or when your provider needs additional information to guide care accurately and quickly.

Sample needed: Clean-catch urine

PGx — Pharmacogenomics

A genetic test that evaluates inherited differences that may influence how your body processes certain medications. It can add helpful information when selecting or dosing a medication, or when reviewing an unexpected response or side effect.

Sample needed: Cheek swab

MiCheck® — Prostate Cancer Risk Assessment

A blood test that combines biomarker results with your age to estimate the likelihood of clinically significant prostate cancer. It may be ordered when PSA is elevated, to help determine whether further evaluation — such as imaging or biopsy — may be appropriate.

Sample needed: Blood draw

Culture — Urine Culture(UCX) for UTI

Grows bacteria from a urine sample to identify the organism causing an infection and guide antibiotic selection. It's used to confirm a suspected UTI and identify which antibiotics will be most effective.

Sample needed: Clean-catch urine

Other Molecular Testing: STI & Vaginitis

Detects genetic material from organisms for fast, accurate identification.

Sample needed: Urine or swab

What other testing is available?

SoftCell also offers Blood Hormones, Respiratory testing, and more. Ask your provider whether additional testing may be right for you.

Cost and Billing

What to Expect From Your Insurance, and Who to Call

Does a benefits check guarantee my insurance will pay?

No. Insurance coverage is determined by your health plan. A benefits check or authorization does not guarantee payment.

Why was I billed for part of my testing?

If your health plan assigns a deductible, copayment, coinsurance, or a noncovered amount, SoftCell is required to collect that patient responsibility from you.

Does SoftCell balance bill?

No. SoftCell does not balance bill. Balance billing means charging you the difference between the amount billed and the amount your health plan allows, beyond your deductible, copayment, coinsurance, or other assigned responsibility. This practice does not remove any amount your plan correctly assigns to you.

What if I can't afford my bill?

Payment plans and financial hardship applications are available for qualifying patients. Self-pay is also an option. Contact SoftCell to discuss your choices.
